Pay TV to overtake fixed telephony in Middle East & Africa
Ampere forecasts show that there will be more pay TV customers in Middle East & Africa than fixed line telephony homes by 2017, highlighting the increasingly important role of subscription television in the region. While the decline of fixed-line telephony globally is well documented, consumers in Europe and the US are still wedded strongly enough to their fixed phone that pay TV will not overtake within the forecast period. By contrast, the widespread use of mobile phones as the primary 'home' phone in the Middle East and Africa means fixed lines will become increasingly sidelined, despite the growth of broadband in the region.
