A Premium on UHD
A look at average recent retail/rental prices shows that UHD content sells at a substantial premium over HD and SD content. A comparison made for only the UHD titles shows a similar trend, suggesting that this price difference stems mainly from the difference in resolution rather than other factors, such as age of content, genre, or promotional activity. The price disparity is partly driven by the lack of availability of UHD content on competing platforms, with only about 1% of Netflix USA content available in UHD. However, with the launch of new technologies, such as UHD HDR, and a push for wider availability of UHD content, Ampere expects this price premium to decline in the coming year.
