Christmas comes early with Prime deliveries from Amazon. Ready for the holiday season, its video catalogue boasts the highest proportion of titles including the words ‘Christmas’, ‘Santa’, or ‘snow’.
Ampere Analytics showed Amazon content to account for more than a quarter of all Christmas-related movies currently available to stream worldwide. This is a significant lead compared with rival subscription video on demand (SVoD) giant Netflix, whose Christmas-related catalogue accounts for just 16% of festive movie content.
Most Christmas movies fall under the umbrella of Children & Family content, with the genre accounting for over half of all Christmas movies currently available – of which 31% are animated.
Unfortunately for Die Hard Action & Adventure fans, the genre represents just 4% of Christmas films currently available on SVoD globally – perhaps a market niche for an enterprising programmer.
