Ampere Analysis has updated country-level theatrical box office revenues to reflect reported year-end 2023 data and expectations for 2024 and onwards. Global box office revenues hit $30.3bn at the end of 2023. This represents an increase of 30% over 2022, but remains 17% below the market’s pre-pandemic value in 2019, with optimism around the recovery of the sector tempered by economic uncertainty and the ongoing impacts of the US writer’s strike.
