Profile: Channels Q2 2018 trends
Ampere uses the new wave of Channels Q2 2018 data to investigate channel brand deals, package sizing, resolution and free channels. Fox channel brands Nat Geo and Nat Geo Wild have most carriage deals globally, with Discovery having a high number of brands with high volume operator deals. Basic packages are analysed to find wide variations in size, percentage of free channels and also proportion of channels with local origin. Despite the hype, we discover that UHD roll-out is slow, and HD still only accounts for just under a quarter of global pay TV channel offerings, as SD remains the most effective way to distribute channels.
