Profile: Sports going D2C - F1 TV
Many sport leagues are launching D2C services, with Formula 1 the latest to announce the launch of its own OTT service in 2018. With the US market leading the way for OTT services (most of the big leagues already have their own OTT service), F1 TV is likely to hit a core subscription OTT demographic in the USA as Formula 1 fans skew to the key younger grouping. In European countries, Formula 1 fans are skewing older but a large number are willing to pay to watch the sport. F1's challenge will be monetising the relatively small, young-skewing, fan base in the US and revitalising the ageing, but passionate, fan base in Europe.
